The
name "Stojak" derives from "Stojakowie".
In
Europe it’s “Stojakowie” ; there
are a lot of Stojak’s also named Stojakovic in Balkan penisula – the same roots but another spelling.
Old European Name that means ”the Stands” or “the Standing Man”
( my father is joking , that’s almost like American-Indian” Sitting
Bull”) in English.
Roots?
I
think its somewhere in Balkan peninsula, Austria and southern Poland about 400 – 500 years ago.
Part
of a family ( I think the oldest one) used to live in Balkans, former Yugoslavia, Hungary and southern Poland.
After
the wars in the 16 and 17 century this part of Europe belonged to Austrian kingdom.
So……
In
18th century lot of them, came to Poland, maybe they had to run for their lives, after the war with Russia?
Many
Polish and Hungarian people was fighting together for independence in the wars with Russia and Austria.
Firsts
known “Stojak’s” or “Stojakowie”
In
America came to NY, in
the 19 century from
Hungary, and Poland or Austria (see the list )
The
biggest part of their children and grandsons went to Illinois, Philadelphia and Ohio
Some
of them were soldiers in the US Army (WW I, and WW II)
Some
of them became famous Artists (Lidna Stojak in NY) or lawyers
Stojak’s
(Stojakowie in Polish) are living now in Poland, Jugoslavia, Hungary and of course in the "New World”;
In
Poland the oldest Stojak’s are living in Kazimierz Dolny in the heart of Poland (try to Write “Kazimierz Dolny”),
it’s one of the most beautiful cities in Europe(I’m serious) they
used to be one of the richest people in the Kazimierz.
Hmm!
I
did not know all those things, so I was very surprised.
It
was very complicated for me to understand all of the connections, but it’s always better to know more J
I’m
sending, some data and documents that I’ve found about Stojak family.
Best regards : Marcin Stojak
